Drones prohibited

Unmanned aircraft systems, also known as aerial drones or quadcopters, are prohibited in Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. They are disruptive to wildlife and visitors. Please leave your drone at home when visiting the Reserve.

Monterey Peninsula Foundation Awards a $100,000 Grant to make Point Lobos Safer for Visitors

The "Lace Lichen Trail Expansion" project offers four major benefits: increased safety for both pedestrians and visitors in vehicles, an improved experience for hikers who are immediately introduced to a natural environment, an improved experience for drivers and an additional access point for people with limited mobility.

Carmel Art Association presents "Point Lobos in Light and Shadow"

Visit the Carmel Art Association this Saturday, November 8 from 5-7pm for the opening reception of "Point Lobos in Light and Shadow". The two-person show featuring artists Howard Perkins and Robert McIntyre will run through December 2, 2014.

Announcing the next great parks and conservation landscape

Heads of the Big Sur Land Trust, Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District, the Point Lobos Foundation and the Monterey District of California State Parks signed a memorandum of understanding on April 9 to further parks between Carmel and Big Sur.

2014 Point Lobos Foundation Annual Meeting

Foundation Members and Point Lobos Docents are invited to join us Saturday, January 11 at Asilomar's Merrill Hall for the Point Lobos Foundation's Annual Meeting.

A social hour will take place between 9:00 and 9:30am, with coffee and refreshments. Our keynote speaker will be State Park Commissioner Ernest Chung, Chair of the California State Parks and Recreation Commission.

Commissioner Chung was managing director at KPMG Consulting and BearingPoint Inc. from 2001 to 2009. He held multiple positions at the Chevron Corporation from 1979 to 2001, including principal consultant, general manager, business development manager, area business development manager and technology research and development manager.

Summer Adventures 2013

2013 Sessions are now full! Summer Outdoor Program is presented by State Park staff and based out of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve.

Kids 8-13 years old will have the opportunity to have fun and enjoy the outdoors in California State Parks.

Summer 2013 Dates:  6/17 - 6/28  and  7/8 - 7/19
Sessions are held daily from 9:00-3:00 - cost per session is $275

  • Do fun nature projects Have fun and be fit in the outdoors
  • Go hiking to places you’ve never been
  • Learn to use a compass and a GPS
  • Explore the world of undersea life, birds and mammals at Point Lobos and the Monterey Bay Aquarium
  • Visit the Coast Guard Rescue Boats
  • Pick Berries and make jam
  • Visit Elkhourn Slough
  • Visit Point Sur Lighthouse
  • Participate in resource projects
  • Be outside - make a difference and learn about sustainability
